We operate with a passionate, diverse, and fully remote team and are at an exciting inflection point — scaling our product and modernizing our technical stack.

About the Role

You will play a key role in shaping the technical future of the company. As Engineering Team Lead, you’ll lead a small team of engineers, own the technical direction, and be hands-on with code every day.

This is a true hybrid role: ~50% hands-on engineering and ~50% technical leadership. You’ll report directly to the CEO and be the single engineering counterpart for product and business decisions.

  • 🕐 Fractional — 20 hours/week or Full time

Your First Mission (First 30 Days)

You’ll start in diagnosis mode — performing a deep technical and product audit of our end-to-end stack: WHMCS dependencies, billing flows, internal tooling, and customer needs. From there, you’ll build a 90-day execution plan that aligns technical realities with business goals.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Own architecture direction for decoupling our legacy client area (WHMCS/PHP) into a modern web app
  • Establish engineering best practices: code quality, reviews, testing strategy, definition of done
  • Implement AI tools across the full development cycle to speed up delivery

Delivery & Planning

  • Translate product goals into execution plans with milestones, sequencing, and risk management
  • Track progress with lightweight KPIs (delivery, quality, reliability)

Team Leadership

  • Mentor developers through feedback, coaching, and effective 1:1s
  • Raise the bar for structured thinking and ownership across the team

Hands-On Engineering

  • Implement critical parts of the new client area and middleware layer
  • Review PRs, guide refactors, and improve legacy code safely

You’re a Great Fit If You Have

  • 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience
  • 2–3+ years as a Tech Lead, Engineering Manager, or similar leadership role
  • Experience in startups or small teams — comfortable with ambiguity and full ownership
  • Deep technical skills that bridge engineering and product
  • Real experience using AI tools for development
  • Strong communication — you translate technical decisions into business language
  • Fluent English — written and spoken (required)

Bonus: Experience with legacy system migrations, WHMCS, PHP, or similar stacks
